Abstract

For most group therapists patients with borderline personality disorder represent one of the most difficult patients in a group, because of their difficulties in forming and maintaining a therapeutic working alliance and obtaining their cooperation in the treatment process. Because of their characteristics and personality dynamics they impact the group with intense emotions, which set in motion rich transference and counter-transference reactions in other members of the group and in the therapist. This is why it is recommended that therapists adapt treatment goals and working techniques, which enables better treatment and cooperation of the patients with borderline personality disorder and enhances the therapeutic value of the group as a whole.
