Attachment Theory in Transactional Analysis
Keywords:
transactional analysis, attachment theory, attachment stylesAbstract
Attachment is an emotional bond between an individual and others and is at least from birth enduring throughout life. On this basis an internal model of perception of oneself and the world develops. This is a coherent pattern which importantly influences one's functioning. Even though this is a stable pattern of perception, thinking, feeling and behaviour, which acts automatically, it changes through life and is therefore amenable to psychotherapeutic treatment. This article initially considers the wider theoretical directions and explanations of attachment theory and the reasons for its changes. After that the article focuses on an understanding of attachment styles and the possibilities for therapeutic treatment with transactional analysis.
