Abstract

In the first part I present the history of training analysis and point out the high correlation between the length of our own selfexperience and the length of subsequent psychotherapeutic treatments. In the second part I mention the crisis of present-day psychoanalysis as presented by Thomä (1991, 1996), and proceed with my understanding of the crisis based on my experiences. Although I speak mainly about the psychoanalytical therapy, the theoretical implementations as well as a century of experience mutatis mutandis, can show us the way for finding a proper place and role for selfexperience in present-day and future psychotherapy, which is as an autonomous scientific discipline. Last but not least, they are supported by the latest research about the correlation of selfexperience with psychotherapist’s later work.
