Jacob Levy Moreno for our time: for new relationships between science, art, spirituality, and everyday life

Abstract

In this article, we describe those parts of Moreno's oeuvre that are not closely related to psychodrama and that are often overlooked. In them, he managed to establish new relationships and interfaces between science, art, spirituality and everyday life. His original therapeutic philosophy can be captured from three perspectives: sociodynamics, sociometry, and sociatry. This scientific approach has always been imbued with axiology, that is, with the spiritual and ethical aspect that forms the centre of his conceptual construction. In Moreno's philosophical conception of science, we can see the strong influence of Kierkegaard and Bergson. By illuminating Moreno’s conception of ego, self, social atom, tele, cultural atom and cultural cans, disease and death, we are trying to facilitate an understanding of his important concept of a therapeutic society, which he otherwise only vaguely defined. We conclude with a description of Moreno's experimental theology, which is the forerunner of one of the most advanced trends in modern complexity science - neurophenomenology.
